BOX SCORE HOBOKEN, NJ - The Hunter Hawks claimed the 2015 ECAC DIII Metro/Upstate Softball Championship with a 5-1 win over no. 1 Stevens Tech on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks, needing to win three games on Sunday, including two in a row against #1 Stevens Tech, finish the season with a record of 24-10.
The Hawks jumped over the Ducks starting pitcher in the 1st inning, scoring four runs. The first 3 batters all reached for the Hawks setting the table for
Victoria Slavik who would smack an RBI single to right field, the next batter,
Meghan O'Shea walked to force in another run.
The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Stephanie Abolt who smack a two-run double ot left giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
That lead would be more than enough for Hawks starter
Erika Colangelo who shut down the Ducks over 7 innings, allowing only one run on a solo home run.
The Hawks added an insurance run in the 5th inning on an Abolt RBI single to make the score 5-1.
