Hawks Split At Day One Of ECAC Tournament

Hawks Will Face Brooklyn College In Elimination Game

HOBOKEN, NJ - The Hunter Hawks softball team went 1-1 at Day One of the ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Championships, defeating Sage College 8-6 then dropping to host and no.1 seed Stevens Tech 6-5.

The Hawks advanced to Day Two where they will play Brooklyn College with the winner moving on to face Stevens Tech in the Championship Game.

Against no.3 Sage, Sara Beck pitched a strong game, striking out 12 batters over 7 innings. The junior allowed four runs and seven hits.

The Hawks top of the lineup was once again strong as the top four batters in the lineup scored at least one run. In her second game hitting in the no. 2 hole, Aleta Terrill went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2RBI, Taylor Crofts also went 2-for-4 with one run scored and Victoria Slavik went 2-for-4 with one run scored and 3RBIs.

Slavik would start the scoring for the Hawks in the 1st inning as she would plate two runs with double to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks would score 6 more runs to put the game out of reach in the 6th inning to put the team up 8-0.

Against Stevens Tech the Hawks took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks again to the production by the top of the lineup.

The Hawks would load the bases in the 1st and would score their first run when Stephanie Abolt drew a walk forcing in a run. Terrill would score later in the inning on an error by the catcher making it 2-0 Hawks, the next batter Briana Monaco singled home Slavik to make it 3-0 in the 1st inning.

The Ducks would respond in the 3rd inning as they would score four runs to take a 4-3 lead. They would add on two more insurance runs in the 4th inning, that proved to be vital.

In the top of the 7th, the Hawks would load the bases and score two runs on singles by Briana Kresback and Meghan O'Shea. Terrill was thrown out at home trying to score the game tying run by the left fielder to end the game.
