BOX SCORE Madison, NJ - Hunter College men's basketball fell to Drew University on Friday night with a score of 76-56 at the Rose City Tip-Off Classic.
The Hawks have started the season 0-2 after dropping their season opener to Manhattanville earlier this week.
Matt Franks started the game by converting on a jumper to get the Hawks on the board first. From there the score went back-and-forth until the Rangers managed to hold onto an eight point lead with 11 minutes to play in the first half.
Hunter's
Danny Fusco went to work for the Purple and Gold, scoring seven-straight points off three baskets to cut Drew's lead to three points. The Rangers began to pull away in the remaining eight minutes of the half, making the score 43-25 at halftime.
With the Rangers up by 18 points,
Amer Lukac paced the Hawks by scoring ten of the team's 12 points in the first seven minutes of the second half. Despite Hunter's best efforts, Drew continued to score, leading by as much as 26 points.
The Hawks outscored the Rangers 10-4 in the last six minutes of the game but it would not be enough to propel them to a win as Drew got the victory with a final score of 76-56.
Lukac and
Gio Gabbidon each recorded 12 points, while Fusco followed with 10 for the Purple and Gold. Lukac also led the squad on the boards by tallying eight in the game.Â
Hunter shot 36.5 (19-52) percent from the floor in the loss, while Drew recorded a 41.2 (28-68) field goal percentage. The Rangers out rebounded the Hawks by just four, recording 41 rebounds to Hunter's 38.
The team returns to action for the second round of the Rose City Tip-Off Tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Marywood University.
