BOX SCORE 2 Montclair, NJ - Hunter College softball fell to Montclair State in a doubleheader this past weekend, dropping the first game, 7-4 and the second, 9-3.
With the losses, the Hawks are now 4-8 overall, but remain 2-0 in conference play after wins over Lehman College last week.
Game 1The Hawks were the first team to take a lead in the first game of the day as Brianna Manaco tripled to right field, allowing
Victoria Slavik and
Alana Vezza to score and give Hunter a 2-0 lead. The Red Hawks responded with two runs of their own to tie the game.
The score would remain the same over the next two innings until Hunter's
Taylor Crofts and
Christine Kline each singled and recorded RBIs to make the score 4-2. Montclair State tied the game in the fourth and began to run away with it in the fifth inning, scoring three times, including a home run for a 7-4 lead. Neither team would score for the rest of the game, giving the Red Hawks the victory.
The Hawks recorded eight hits to Montclair State's seven with Manaco leading the team with two hits and two RBIs.
Game 2Hunter once again struck first in the game as Kline scored on a wild pitch for an early 1-0 Hunter lead. The Red Hawks homered in the third to tie the game, but Hunter responded with two more runs in the fourth inning thanks to hits from Annalise Mcclellan and Kline.
With the Hawks leading 3-2, Montclair State would score seven more times over the next two innings, while holding Hunter to just two more hits as the Red Hawks cruised to a 9-3 victory.
Hunter tallied nine hits in the game, while the Red Hawks recorded 11.
