BOX SCORE 2 New York, NY - The softball team dropped a twinbill double header to Stevens Tech on Friday afternoon at Randall's Island. After falling 8-0 in the first game, the Hawks were unable to bounce back and lost 9-0 in the second. The two losses drop the Purple and Gold to 14-16 overall.
Game 1 Recap - Hunter was only able to register three hits while Stevens chalked up 10 hits resulting in eight runs.
Taylor Crofts,
Briana Monaco and
Stevie Rae Micheli were the only Hawks to tally hits while
Sara Beck suffered the loss in the circle, allowing four earned runs in 5.2 innings of work and striking out nine.
Stevens got on the board first with a run in the second inning and then broke the game open with a five-run fifth. Hunter committed four errors in the inning which yielded five runs for their counterparts and set them back 6-0. The Ducks closed out the game in the top of the sixth when they drove in two runs off of three hits to cap the 8-0 game.
Game 2 Recap - Similar to the first game, Hunter's bats struggled at the plate.
Stefanie Abolt broke up Steven's no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth with a single which proved to be the Hawk's only hit of the game. Meanwhile, the Ducks scored nine runs on 11 hits and four Hunter errors in their win.
Erika Colangelo suffered the loss in the circle after hurling four innings, allowing 10 hits and giving up seven earned runs.
The Ducks capitalized on a Hunter error in the second as they registered four runs on three hits to go up 4-0. They tacked on another run in the third and then two more in the fourth off of a two-run home run to make it a 7-0 game. The visitors held Hunter at bay while adding two more in the fifth to conclude the 9-0 affair.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday, May 1 when they take on Moravian in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. First pitch of the double header is slated for a 1pm start.
