BOX SCORE 2 Montclair, NJ - Hunter College softball got a huge win over Montclair State on Thursday, starting the doubleheader with a 6-5 victory before falling in the second game, 5-0.
The Hawks improve to 5-5 overall while remaining undefeated in the conference.Â
Montclair State started off the first game by taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Red Hawks held on to the lead until the fifth when
Stefanie Abolt singled through the right side, allowing
Caroline Bibula and
Taylor Crofts to score and tying up the game.
From there
Alana Vezza homered to gather three RBI's and give Hunter a 5-2 lead. Montclair State tied it up in the fifth, but
Victoria Slavik singled in the 7th inning to send
Samantha Molloy home and help the Hawks to a 6-5 victory.
Vezza led the team with two hits and three RBI's, while Abolt followed with three. Bibula got the win from in the circle to improve to 2-1 this season.
Hunter recorded four hits in the second game as Bibula,
Annalise McClellan, Abolt and Alsiha Doviesak each tallied one.
Leanna Donahue and
Nicole Guzzone led the Hawks at the pitcher position in the 5-0 loss.
Hunter returns to action on April 5 when they host Rutgers-Newark in a doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
