BOX SCORE 2 New York, NY - Hunter College softball dropped a doubleheader versus New York University on Tuesday afternoon, falling in the first game 17-4 and dropping a much closer second game, 6-3.
The Hawks struck first to begin the game with a 1-0 score. The Violets tied it up in the fourth inning and then pulled ahead by one in the fifth, but a single from
Stefanie Abolt allowed
Taylor Crofts to score as Hunter tied the game 2-2 in the fifth.
Hunter finished off the fifth inning with a 4-2 advantage as
Annalise McClellan and
Heather Ostrowski each recorded RBI's for the Purple and Gold. The Violets took back control in the sixth and seventh to get the 17-4 victory.
The second game was a competitive one as the Hawks trailed going into the second inning but tied it 2-2 off hits from
Brittney Salvador and
Jamie Durso that allowed Abolt and McClellan to make it home. Hunter scored once more in the fifth inning off a single to center field from
Victoria Slavik, but it would not be enough as the Hawks fell 6-3 to NYU.
Leanna Donahue and
Caroline Bibula led the Hawks from in the circle on the day.
The team returns to action on April 20 when they travel to Drew University for a 3 p.m. game.
