New York, NY - The men's track and field team opened up their 2018-19 campaign at the TCNJ Indoor Open at the Armory Track and Field Center. Along with several personal bests, the Purple and Gold squad posted 12 top-20 finishes on the day.
In the sprints,
Isaac Mari-Jata, placed 30
th in his Hunter debut with a time of 7.52 in the 60m dash and was the top Hawk in the event. In the 600m,
Adam Tulibacki stopped the clock at 1:36.46 with teammate
Marco Vargas close behind in 1:39.33 as they finished 23
rd and 24
th respectively.
Rauful Hossain broke the 60 second barrier in the 400m dash with a time of 59.23 to place 15
th overall.
In the mid-distance events,
Griffin Kearney had an impressive outing, tallying two personal bests. He clocked in at 2:46.86 in the 1,000 which was good enough for 14
th place and then stopped the clock at 4:48.79 in the mile which was the first time he broke five minutes indoors and placed 20
th in the process. Close behind was teammate
Kyle Harris who placed 22
nd with a mark of 4:49.79.
Rounding out the contingent, Hunter had three perform well in the jumps and throws.
Glenn Collaku achieved two personal bests on the day; he posted marks of 5.62m in the long jump and 7.04m in the weight throw for 16
th and 15
th place finishes respectively.
Alejandro Quantero chalked up two top-17 finishes with a 14
th place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 7.43m while placing 17
th in the shot put with a mark of 7.34m. Finally,
Jean Ady's heave of 7.41m in the shot put earned him a 16
th place finish.
The Hawks will take a break from competition for a few weeks but will return to action on Saturday, January 12 when they head back to the Armory for another meet hosted by TCNJ.
