Softball Sweeps Drew on Wednesday

Hawks Win 2-1, 12-9

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 Madison, N.J. - Hunter College softball finished up Wednesday with two wins, defeating Drew University in two games with scores of 2-1 and 12-9.

With the victories the Hawks improved to 12-12 this season, while the Bears are now 10-19.

The Hawks scored all two of their runs in the first inning as Alana Vezza singled, advancing Stefanie Abolt and allowing Jamie Durso to reach home base. Abolt was able to score off a wild pitch to give the Hawks the 2-0 lead. In the remaining innings Hunter and pitcher Nicole Guzzone held the Bears to just one run to get the win.

The second game featured more runs as Drew took an early 4-0 lead. The Hawks tied it up at the top of the third, but the Bears took back the lead to make it 5-4.

In the fourth inning, Abolt doubled down the right field line to earn two RBI's. Hunter posted two more runs in the inning to get the 8-5 advantage.

With Hunter trailing 9-8 in the seventh inning, the Hawks closed it out by recording three more runs to take the game 12-9.

The team returns to action on Thursday when they travel to FDU-Florham for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
