BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 New York, N.Y. - Hunter College softball fell in a doubleheader on Tuesday to New York University, dropping the games with scores of 5-3 and 10-7 at Randall's Island.

The team celebrated seniors Ashley Yu, Alisha Doviesak, Stefanie Abolt and Annalise McClellan in between games.

With the losses the Hawks fall to 16-14 overall this season.

The Violets got on the scoreboard first in the sixth inning, but Hunter tied it up as Brittney Salvador doubled to allow Alana Vezza to make it home. The Hawks stayed with NYU in the next inning, matching their two runs to tie the score 3-3 to send it into extra innings.

The Violets pulled out the victory in the eight, getting a 5-3 win. Jamie Durso, Salvador and Vezza led the team with two hits each in the loss.

The second game started with a bang as NYU immediately scored four runs. Hunter's Stafanie Abolt followed that up by hitting a home run over the fence and scoring two runners to help the Hawks trail 4-3 to go into the second inning.

The Violets recorded five runs over the next two innings, but the Hawks kept them close, recording a runs in the third and the fourth. The Purple and Gold made it interesting by earning two more runs in the fifth inning, but it was not enough as NYU took the game 10-7.

The team returns to action on April 26 when they face Baruch College at 3 p.m.
