BOX SCORE 2 New York, N.Y.- The Hunter College softball team shut out Brooklyn College both games of a conference double header on Friday evening. The Hawks took the first game in just five and a half innings, 13-0. The second game was another walk-off win for Hunter as they outscored the Bulldogs 10-0. The win puts the Purple and Gold at a perfect 12-0 in conference play and 13-9 overall, while Brooklyn slides to 4-18 overall and 2-14 in the City of New York Athletic Conference.
Game 1 (Hunter-13 | Brooklyn-0)
Sophia Perez led the team with four hits in the game including a double and a homerun with two RBIs.
T'ea Panagakos got the win in the circle after striking out three in three innings and allowing only one hit.
Hunter put up four runs in the top of the first, kicked off by a double from
Nicole Bowe to drive two runners in.
The Hawks tacked on an impressive eight runs in the second.
Paige Witalec recorded a two RBI double to start off, followed by another RBI from Bowe to send Witalec home.Â
Panagakos grounded out the the pitcher but advanced runners the second and third in addition to another run. Curia scored off of a single from Jessica Fowl. Another run was added after a wild pitch to put Hunter up 10-0. Perez's two run homer closed out action for the impressive second inning performance by the Hawks.
After a quiet third inning, Hunter was able to make it a baker's dozen, as Witalec garnered her third RBI of the game and finished off Brooklyn, 13-0.
Game 2 (Hunter-10 | Brooklyn-0)
The Hawks had an impact from the start, scoring seven runs in the top of the first. Bowe had a double once again to drive home Perez followed by a single from Curia that drove home two runners. She then scored after Fowl was hit by a pitch.Â
A double from Perez led to an additional three runs as the inning closed out with Hunter up seven.
Olivia Palumbo's double added insurance in the bottom of the third but the Hawks weren't done yet. Witalec and Bowe each added an RBI each to make the score 10-0.Â
Leah Dillon remained in the circle and held the Bulldogs off once again and after a silent fourth, Hunter continued the shut out at the top of the fifth for the second walk-off win of the day. Dillion grabbed the win, pitching the game's entirety while allowing only one hit and seven strike outs.
Up next, the Hawks host York at home on Monday, April 25th. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
