New York, NY - The Hunter College softball team has been awarded the #1 overall seed in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament. The Hawks put together a 19-11 overall record with an impressive, unblemished, 20-0** mark in league action. With five teams competing, the Purple and Gold will earn a first round bye and begin play on May 6.
The softball program has 11 CUNYAC Championships to their ownership. They won three in the 1980's ('84, '86, '88), four in the 90's ('93, '94, '95, 97) and four in the 2000's ('02, '03, '06, '08). Since 2009, the team has appeared in seven championships and has settled for runner up each time.
Checking in at #2 was John Jay (15-19, 14-6) who edged out #3 Baruch (21-15, 14-6) in a tie breaker. #4 Lehman (11-14, 8-12) and #5 Brooklyn (6-21, 4-16) round out the field. For the first time, there was a play-in game featuring #4 Lehman vs. #5 Brooklyn which took place on May 3. Lehman won by a score of 6-0 and advanced and will face the top seeded Hawks in the double-elimination portion of the tournament. In the other bracket, John Jay and Baruch will duke it out to see who advances. The Tournament will begin on Friday, May 6 and will conclude on Saturday, May 7. Day two of the Championship will be broadcast via Facebook Live. The full schedule is below.

**Note: the two forfeit wins against York count toward league records, but are excluded from overall records.
