The Hawks drop 2 at day 1 of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 North Myrtle Beach, SC - Hunter Hawks traveled down to Myrtle Beach South Carolina for the Fastpitch Dreams Classic.  On Day 1 the Hawks took on Kings College at 5pm and Kean University at 7pm.

Game 1- Hunter played Kings College in game 1 of there trip down south. The hawks dropped the game 9-6, here is how it happened:

Leah Dillon singled, and came around to scored in the top of the first, with Kings able to tie it up in the bottom of the first.  In the bottom of the second Kings was able to take the lead on a couple of Hunter miscues that led to an unearned run, and a triple alowing the hosts to go up 3-1.

In the top of the 4th 4 straight singles by Paige Witalec, Adriana Ramirez, Olivia Woodruff and Sophia Perez, led to a run scored by Witalec and an RBI for Perez.   The Hawks got closer at 3-2.  In the bottom of the 4th Hunter brought in Alyssa Curia to provide relief for starting pitcher Tea Panagakos, and she kept the game at 3-2.  In the top of the 5th with 1 out Olivia Palumbo tripled and Dillon drove her in to tie the game up at 3. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 6th.

In the bottom of the 6th now down 4-3 Panagakos came back in the circle with no outs and bases loaded to try and wiggle out of a jam, but Kings took advantage of their opportunity and scored 6 runs in total to go up 9-3.  In the top of the 7th Hunter put up a fight, with 2 outs and 2 runners on Nicole Bowe singled to load the bases.  Witalec stepped up and singled to right field to drive in two.  After a wild pitch that Bowe scored on and Witalec advanced on, Olivia Woodruff flied out to right field, her only out of the game.

For the game the Hawks had 13 hits, Panagakos was charged with the loss giving up 4 earned runs, and collected 4 strikeouts.

Game 2- Hunter was the home team vs Kean University.  The Hawks dropped the game 16-1,here is how it happened:

In the loss the Hawks were only able to put together 4 hits.  The game was scoreless through 3 innings, but in the top of the 4th Kean scored the first run of the game.  Down 7-1 the Hawks gave up 9 runs in the 7th and were unable to climb out of the hole.

Paige Witalec continued her hot day going 2-4 and scoring the only run for the Hawks.  Alyssa Curia pitched all 7 innings for the Hawks, dropping her early season record to 0-1 while picking up 6 strikeouts,

Hunter returns to action tomorrow when they play agains Penn State Beaver and Alvernia.
