The Hunter College Men's Cross-Country team, is gearing up for another exhilarating season. The two-time defending champions of the CUNYAC Conference, the Hawks are poised to take on a challenging schedule and face the always challenging opponents in the CUNYAC conference on Sunday October 29th.
A dynamic group of athletes forms the core of the team, each with their own unique strengths and stories. With names like Mateo Penafiel,
Brian Guillermo, Alex Niyazov, Hegzhi Zhu,
Angel Martinez, and
Kacper Fraczek leading the charge, the Hawks boast a lineup that's ready to leave their mark on the course. These key returning players are the backbone of the team's aspirations, showcasing both experience and the hunger for victory.
The Hawks' commitment to one another and to pushing beyond individual limits is the heartbeat of their approach. Their mantra, "Good teams become great ones, when the members trust each other enough to surrender the 'me' for 'we'," encapsulates their unity, camaraderie, and shared goals. The season opener, hosted by SUNY Purchase on September 9th at 11 am, sets the stage for the Hawks to make a statement right from the get-go. It's their chance to lay down the marker and showcase their readiness for the challenges ahead. With determination in their stride and unity in their hearts, they'll be sprinting towards success from the very start.
Hunter is hopeful that newcomers Haasil Pujara and Kanishka Awashti will add to a strong team that also placed 2nd in the ECAC Regional Championships which was the highest place finish in school history.
