BOX SCORE Brooklyn, N.Y.- The Hunter College softball team concluded day one of the CUNYAC Championships with a commanding 10-2 win over top-seeded John Jay.
Hunter took an early lead scoring 4 in the top of the first inning,
Olivia Palumbo got on base to start the game and then Senior right fielder
Sophia Perez hit a home run on a full count to take an early 2-0 lead. The Hawks were not done with big hits in the first,
Paige Witalec hit a triple to drive in a run, and she herself scored when she was driven in by
Adriana Ramirez.
In the top of the second the Hawks picked right back up scoring two more runs when
Sophia Perez and
Elizabeth Thompson crossed the plate, they were driven in by
Samantha Marsala.
T'ea Panagakos was in the circle to start for the Hawks and kept John Jay off balance. The Graduate Student from Staten Island went two innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 unearned runs. The
Up 6-2 in the 4th Witalec hit a double driving in two more, when Perez nad Thompson were on base.
Nicole Bowe then hit a triple to left field to drive in Witalec and push the lead out to 9.
Kierra Shaw crossed the plate for the tenth run in the top of the 5th to give the Hawks the 8 run lead. Senior
Alyssa Curiale went 3 innings in the circle for the win, she only gave up 1 hit and kept the bloodhounds off the scoreboard.
Sophia Perez finished 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's,
Paige Witalec was 2-3 , with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's, the Hawks had 12 hits in 26 at bats! Hunter will play at 1pm on Saturday vs the winner of the Baruch vs John Jay game to be played at 11am.
