NEW YORK - The Hunter College men's indoor track and field team delivered a solid performance at the NYU Division III Invitational held at The Armory. Competing against a strong field of athletes from various schools, Hunter showcased its talent across multiple events.
In the 60-meter dash, junior Hamza Elsherbiny led the Hawks with a time of 7.55 seconds, placing 36th overall. Sophomore Jocsan Crespo followed with a time of 7.66 seconds, finishing 40th in the preliminary round.
Hunter found success in the 200-meter dash, where junior Benjamin Landheim clocked an impressive 23.72 seconds, earning 27th place. Elsherbiny returned to the track, posting a time of 24.16 seconds to secure 32nd place.
Landheim also delivered a strong performance in the 400-meter dash, finishing 11th with a time of 51.91 seconds, just narrowly missing the top ten.
In middle-distance events, sophomore Conor Sullivan led Hunter in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.96, placing 34th. Freshman Leonardo Kaplan finished close behind in 36th place with a time of 2:09.30. The Hawks also had solid representation in the 1-mile run, where junior Brian Arias finished 41st with a time of 4:49.13, followed by junior Hengzhi Zhu in 48th place (5:03.70) and Mateo Penafiel in 49th place (5:05.61).
Freshman Melvil Badier impressed in the 3000-meter run, clocking a time of 8:54.96 to secure 11th place overall, demonstrating both endurance and speed.
In the field events, sophomore Solomon Kumi cleared 1.70 meters (5-07.00) in the high jump, finishing tied for 11th place.
Overall, the Hunter College men's track and field team showed resilience and competitive spirit throughout the invitational, gaining valuable experience as they continue their season.
