NEW YORK — The Hunter College men's indoor track and field team finished second at the 2025 CUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at The Armory, scoring 184 points to narrowly trail Medgar Evers' winning total of 193 points. The Hawks collected multiple individual titles, personal bests and podium finishes in a strong showing.
Hunter's Solomon Kumi was named the meet's Most Valuable Performer, after securing a gold medal in the triple jump (12.63m), a silver in the high jump (1.75m) and a bronze in the long jump (5.85m), along with a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.35, PR).
The Hawks opened the meet with strong performances in the 60-meter dash, where Hamza Elsherbiny (7.49) and Jocsan Crespo (7.52) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, both setting personal bests. In the 60-meter hurdles, Kumi's second-place finish in 9.35 seconds earned Hunter valuable points.
In the 200 meters, Benjamin Landheim (23.40, PR) finished fifth, while Elsherbiny took seventh (24.03, PR). Landheim also ran 52.79 in the 400 meters, placing fifth, with Conor Sullivan (55.24, season best) finishing fourth.
Hunter controlled the middle-distance and distance events, with Brian Guillermo winning the 800 meters (2:08.33, season best) and the mile (4:35.15). Melvil Badier placed second in both races, setting a personal best in the 800 meters (2:08.32) and clocking 4:36.82 in the mile. Mateo Penafiel added a third-place finish in the mile (4:42.58, PR).
The 3,000 meters saw a Hunter sweep, with Badier (9:29.00) winning the event, followed by Brian Arias (9:46.98) in second and Leonardo Kaplan (9:57.74) in third.
The 4x400m relay team also saw success as Landheim. Elsherbiny, Crespo, and Sullivan finished in second with a total time of 3:44.74.
Kumi's triple jump title (12.63m) was the highlight of the jumping events, where he also placed second in the high jump (1.75m) and third in the long jump (5.85m). Cedric Denis also recorded a personal best in the long jump (5.85m), finishing fifth.
In the throws, Jonathan Cauchi won the shot put (11.50m) and placed second in the weight throw with a personal best of 12.08m. Cristian Rocha also threw a personal best in the weight throw (6.14m) to finish sixth, while Landheim placed seventh in the shot put (8.65m, PR).
