PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The Hunter College softball team dropped to 5-13 on the season following a pair of losses to St. Joseph's University Long Island (8-6) on Tuesday evening. The Hawks totaled 10 runs and 19 hits across the nonconference doubleheader, briefly pulling even in the second game of the day, before the Golden Eagles responded with decisive innings in both contests.

Game 1: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 13, Hunter 5
Hunter tied the game at 5-5 through three innings, but St. Joseph's responded with a seven-run fourth and added another in the fifth to take the opener in five innings.

Jessica Fowler powered the offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Adriana Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Isabella Thumhart added an RBI groundout. Grace Basil reached base three times, finishing 1-for-1 with two walks and a run. Nicole Bowe scored twice, and Paige Witalec singled.

Thumhart pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs, and struck out one. The Hawks turned a double play and stayed within reach early before the Golden Eagles pulled away.

Game 2: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 12, Hunter 5
In the nightcap, Hunter produced another 10-hit outing and rallied to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the fifth, but St. Joseph's answered with five runs in the bottom half and two more in the sixth.

Bowe capped a stellar day with a 3-for-3 showing, adding a walk and two runs scored. Witalec went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, Basil finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Ramirez singled and scored. Thompson doubled in the sixth, while Olivia Palumbo singled and scored in the fifth.

Basil pitched the first two innings, and Thumhart worked the final four. The Hawks committed just one error and threw out two runners attempting to steal.

The Hawks return to action on Thursday, April 3, for a road doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Newark, N.J.
