FLUSHING, N.Y. — The City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its 2025 men's volleyball postseason awards on Monday, with three Hunter College student-athletes earning recognition for their outstanding seasons.
Rookie standout
Ahmed Mohamed was named a First Team All-Star,
Lucas George earned Second Team All-Star honors, and senior
Charlie Alvarez was selected to the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team.
In his debut season, Mohamed emerged as one of the top outside hitters in the conference. He led the Hawks in nearly every major offensive category, finishing with 236 kills over 70 sets for an average of 3.37 kills per set, which ranked third in the league. He tallied an impressive .319 hitting percentage on 454 total attempts and served up 51 aces, ranking second in CUNYAC at 0.73 aces per set. Mohamed was also a strong contributor on defense, notching 93 digs and 27 total blocks. His all-around effort translated to 304.5 total points, good for second in the conference at 4.35 points per set, helping guide the Hawks to an 11–2 conference record. He was named Rookie of the Week and received multiple honorable mentions throughout the season.
George anchored the net defensively for Hunter, ranking second in the conference with 0.81 blocks per set. He totaled 50 blocks (4 solo, 46 assisted) over 59 sets. On the attack, George added 67 kills while maintaining a .342 hitting percentage, the fifth-best mark in the conference. His presence at the net provided key depth and consistency on both sides of play.
Alvarez, a senior competing in his first season of collegiate volleyball, was recognized for his exceptional character, effort, and leadership with a selection to the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team. Known for his dedication and perseverance, Alvarez approached the season with a growth mindset, becoming a reliable teammate and positive influence on and off the court. He contributed 13 service aces and 23 digs across 28 sets, and his commitment to improvement and team culture made a lasting impact. His journey exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and student-athlete integrity.
Hunter continues its postseason with an appearance in the ECAC Tournament on Saturday, taking on second-seeded New Jersey City University at 2 p.m.
