BOX SCORE 2 FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The Hunter College softball team (9-19) dropped both games of a road doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Farmingdale State (16-10), taking an 8-0 loss in the opener before a 13-2 setback in Game 2. The Hawks were held to three hits across the two contests but managed to scratch across a pair of runs in the second game behind productive at-bats.
Game 1: Farmingdale State 8, Hunter 0 (6 innings)
Hunter was limited to just one hit in the opener, falling 8-0 in six innings.
Elizabeth Thompson recorded the Hawks' lone hit with a one-out single down the left field line in the sixth. Olivia Palumbo and Paige Witalec each drew walks earlier in the game, but Hunter was unable to advance a runner past second base.
Grace Basil started in the circle and held the Rams to three runs through the first five innings before a five-run sixth ended the game. Basil struck out one over 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits and four walks.
Game 2: Farmingdale State 13, Hunter 2 (5 innings)
Hunter found more rhythm at the plate in the nightcap, scoring twice over the first three innings, but Farmingdale State capitalized on early walks and extra-base hits to pull away.
Palumbo and Witalec tallied the team's only hits — back-to-back singles in the third — and both runs came via productive outs. Basil walked and later scored in the second on a sacrifice fly from Janice Hernandez, while Nicole Bowe plated Palumbo in the third with a bunt groundout.
Jessica Fowler started in the circle, and Bowe came on in relief in the third. The Hawks issued 11 walks and hit four batters across the two pitching stints, while the Rams strung together nine hits and scored in every inning.
