FLUSHING, N.Y.- Hunter College women's volleyball has been picked second in the City University of New York Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, the league office announced Wednesday, positioning the Hawks for another run at the top of the standings.
The Purple and Gold collected 42 points and one first-place nod, trailing only defending champions, John Jay, with 47. Brooklyn landed in third with 37 points, followed by Baruch (33) and CCNY (24) to round out the top five. Lehman (21), York (12) and Medgar Evers (8) completed the poll.
Hunter was the 2024 regular season champion, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play. Lily Mattison was selected as the Hawks' Player to Watch, coming off an impressive season which saw the captain named a CUNYAC First Team All-Star. Mattison dominated both sides of the net, holding a conference-best .235 hitting percentage for the regular season, while recording 200 kills, 37 service aces and 272.5 points. Defensively, she was just as relentless, pacing the Hawks with 54 total blocks, including 17 solo.
The Hawks kick-off their 2025 campaign at the Rutgers-Newark Tri-Match on Aug. 29, squaring off with Farmingdale State at 1 p.m. before facing the hosting Raiders at 3 p.m.
