Hawks Open Outdoor Season at Snowflake Classic

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's outdoor track and field team kicked off its season with a challenging meet featuring a field of Division I opponents on Saturday.

Rookie Mouhamed Diop had a standout debut, placing first in the high jump with a mark of 1.50m, followed by a second-place mark of 4.96m in the long jump. Diop also competed in the 110m hurdles, finishing second in 22.35, as well as the 100m dash, where he posted a time of 13.25.

Fellow rookie Marquis Barkley also had a strong performance for the Purple and Gold, earning first place in the long jump with a leap of 5.39m, as well as a sixth-place finish among Division I runners in the 100m dash, crossing the tape in 12.63.

Field events were rounded out by a second-place throw of 9.58m by Adman Idrissou. Keith Sun also competed, recording a mark of 5.93m.

Senior Mateo Penafiel finished the men's mile in under five minutes, placing fifth overall with a time of 4:59.64. Hengzhi Zhu followed with a time of 5:05.1.

Four Hawks competed in the 800m race, led by two-sport athlete Leonardo Kaplan at 2:17.62, followed by Robery Liang-Xu (2:18.12), Harrison Abaraca (2:20.46), and Zhu (2:22.53).

Joscan Crespo competed in the 400m, finishing in 58.45, as well as the 100m dash (12.78). Sun and Miles Pineda closed out performances for the Hawks with 100m times of 14.97 and 15.71, respectively.

The Hawks return to the track March 21 at the Stockton Invitational.
