NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's outdoor track and field team earned its first City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) title since 2008 this weekend at Ichan Stadium.
The Hawks finished with 176 team points, followed by last year's champion, Medgar Evers with 167 points, and CCNY in third with 122 points. Lehman placed fourth with 118 points, while York closed out the field with four.
Hunter had five individual champions to lead the way and 26 top-5 finishes at the meet.
The Hawks dominated in distance events, sweeping the podium in three races.
Leonardo Kaplan took home gold in the 3000 steeplechase, crossing the tape in 11:13.89, followed by Hengzhi Zhu in second (11:32.14) and Robert Liang-Xu in third (11:43.69).
Hunter also swept the podium in the longest event of the day, as Zhu took home gold with a time of 37:07.47, followed by Harrison Abarca in 37:26.38 and Brian Arias in third with a time of 38:03.17.
Senior Mateo Penafiel won the 5000m, crossing the tape in 17:23.11, while Zhu's time of 17:53.56 earned him a silver medal, followed by Arias, who took bronze in 18:35.24.
Captain Benjamin Landheim was crowned individual champion in the 400H with a time of 1:01.23. Jack Treacher placed third in the same event, clocking in at 1:04.01.
Two-sport athlete Anthony Coccarelli rounded out the winners for Hunter with a throw of 31:48m in the discus to take home gold.
