Hoboken, NJ – Sophomore setter
Zacarias Ripoll (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) recorded a double-double for Hunter with 38 assists and ten digs, but the #4 Carthage Red Men picked up a 3-1 (31-29, 20-30, 19-30, 18-30) win in the second game of the Stevens Invitational at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, NJ.
Carthage was led by senior outside hitter
Allan Russo (Bridgeview, IL/Oak Lawn) who notched 21 kills and 20 digs in four games. Sophomore outside hitter
Andy Patton (Wauwatosa, WI/East) recorded 15 kills, while junior setter
Joe Dougherty (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way Central) accumulated 54 assists in the victory.
Freshman outside hitter
Pablo Oliveira (Brazil/Newcomers) led Hunter offensive attack with 11 kills and also registered five digs and three solo blocks. Freshman middle blocker
Eryk Kowalski (Poland/Environmental Studies) added eight kills, hitting a team high .368.
Hunter (3-2) will now face Baruch College at Noon on Sunday, in their final match of the Stevens Invitational. This will be the first meeting between Hunter and Baruch since March 22, 2007 when the Bearcats shocked the Hawks with a 3-1 victory in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship Match.
