Messina Earns Impressive Victory
Hawks Fall Short To Centenary, 28-14

Hackettstown, NJ – Freshman Sean Messina (West Islip, NY/West Islip), who enter Sunday's finale with a perfect 6-0 record, remained unbeaten by defeating Jay-Anthony Giuricich, the tenth ranked 133 pounder in the nation via a 13-2 major decision during a 28-14 defeat the host, Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.

125 pounds

Senior Evan Velez (Bronx, NY, Lehman), currently ranked sixth in the Metropolitan Conference, got things started for the Hawks with an 11-1 major decision over Anthony Bachmann.

165 pounds

After the Hawks lost three straight matches, freshman Matt Cartusciello (Staten Island, NY/Petrides) helped cut the Cyclone lead to just four points with a 6-2 decision over Charles Canella.

197 pounds

Senior Brian Scher (Levittown, NY/MacArthur), currently ranked second in the Metropolitan Conference, improves his season mark to 8-0 with a 7-5 decision over Anthony Greene.

After Sunday's quad match, the Hawks are now 5-4 in dual matches this season. The team will now return to competitions following the Holiday break when they head to the Bud Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA on January 9 and 10.
