Pete Jacobson Named as Section 1 Wrestling Hall of Fame 2026 Inductee

NEW YORK, N.Y.- Hunter College Wrestling's Pete Jacobson has been selected for induction into the Section 1 Wrestling Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026 recognizing a distinguished coaching career and lasting impact on the sport in Westchester County and beyond.

Jacobson, who currently leads the Hawks' wrestling program, spent 21 years coaching at his alma mater, Edgemont High School, where he built one of the premier programs in New York State. Taking over a program with just eight student-athletes, he developed it into a thriving pipeline of more than 100 wrestlers annually across the youth, middle school, and high school levels.

During his tenure at Edgemont, Jacobson guided his teams to eight league championships and two Section 1 titles, while earning League Coach of the Year honors eight times. He was also named the 2022 LoHud-Journal News Wrestling Coach of the Year. His teams were recognized not only for their success on the mat, but also for their sportsmanship, earning the Section 1 Officials Association Team Sportsmanship Award three times in its first four years of existence.

Individually, Jacobson mentored generations of standout wrestlers, including 70 All-Section selections, 29 Section champions, 15 All-State wrestlers, three New York State champions, and three high school All-Americans. Notably, eight of his final 14 seasons at Edgemont featured a wrestler who earned Section 1 Wrestler of the Year honors.

Jacobson founded the Edgemont Youth Wrestling program in 2004, helping to establish a sustainable foundation for long-term success. He also played a key role in expanding opportunities within the sport, organizing the first-ever girls wrestling tournament in Section 1 at Edgemont High School in 2019.

Beyond high school competition, Jacobson has helped guide numerous student-athletes to continue their careers at the collegiate level, with alumni competing at institutions including Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, New York University, the University of Virginia, and the University of Pittsburgh.

In addition to his Section 1 Hall of Fame honor, Jacobson will also be inducted into the Edgemont High School Wrestling Hall of Fame, further cementing his legacy within the community where his coaching career began.

The annual dinner for the Section 1 Wrestling Hall of Fame will be held May 7 at Harrison Meadows Country Club. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.

Now at Hunter, Jacobson continues to build the Hawks' wrestling program with the same commitment to excellence, development, and integrity that defined his tenure at Edgemont.
