Pablo Oliveira (Brazil/Newcomers) hit a team high 15 kills, hitting .524 as the Hunter College Hawks advance to their sixth straight CUNY Athletic Conference Finals appearance with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-12, 30-12) over the fourth seeded Lehman Lightning Thursday night at the Hunter Sportsplex. Hunter will now face #2 Baruch College in the finals for the fourth year in a row.
Lehman kept things close early in the first game as both teams traded points before Hunter took control and was able to build a three point lead which they never relinquished. Freshman outside hitter
Wojciech Jakubiak (Poland/Grover Cleveland) chipped in nine kills and eight digs for the Hawks, while sophomore setter
Zacarias Ripoll (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) added 31 assists, eight kills and four digs.
Lehman was led by sophomore opposite
Nate Martin (Carleton, MI/Airport) who finished with eight kills, while freshman outside hitter
Jonathan Cruz (Bronx, NY/John F. Kennedy) added six kills and four digs.
The Hawks win streak is now been extended to 22 matches and they improve to 29-3 overall. Lehman concludes their season at 15-8 overall.
