New York, NY – Senior middle blocker
Shandu Foster (Long Island City, NY, Academy of American Studies) closed out an impressive month for himself, recording a match high 15 kills and leading the Hawks to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-24, 30-25) victory over Johnson & Wales University on Saturday in a non-conference men's volleyball match at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The middle attack has become a key part of the team's success this season, a change from the outside hitting game of recent Hunter tams.
Foster has played a huge rule in that along with freshman
Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY, Cardozo) who finished today's match hitting .556 with 12 kills and two errors and also had three total blocks.
Sophomore outside hitter
Wojciech Jakubiak (Poreba, Poland/Grover Cleveland) registered 14 kills of his own along with four serving aces. Freshman outside hitter
Jerin Kallickal (Kerala, India/Swanhakal) had a quiet day on offense with just eight kills, but led the defensive end with 14 digs. Junior setter
Zacarias Ripoll (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) tallied 48 assists.
The Wildcats were led by freshman opposite Mark Garlock (East Greenwich, RI) who tied a match high of 15 kills, while freshman outside hitter Petar Yanakiev (Varna, Bulgaria) added 11 kills and eight digs.
Hunter, now 17-12 overall, will return to action on Tuesday, when they host the City College of New York for a 7:00 p.m. match.
