Hawks Fall To Baruch in Four Sets

New York, NY – Senior middle blocker Shandu Foster (Long Island City, NY/Academy of American Studies) recorded a match high 18 kills, but after four close sets of play, it would be the Baruch Bearcats who remained unbeaten in CUNY Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 (30-26, 30-26, 24-30, 30-26) victory on their home floor Tuesday night.

Freshman middle blocker Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) had an impressive match for the Hawks, hitting 12 kills, hitting .500 and also had a match high six total blocks. Freshman opposite Val Povaliaev (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) added five total blocks, while junior setter Zacarias Ripoll (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) had 44 assists and nine digs.

The Bearcats were led by sophomore Pablo Oliveira (Brazil/Newcomers) who had a team high 16 kills and senior Daniel Levent (Forest Hills, NY/American Studies) added 15 kills and five total blocks.

The win clinched the top spot in the conference for the Bearcats who will win their first regular season championship since the 2006 season. The Hawks will enter the CUNYAC Playoffs as the second seed and will likely face either Lehman College or Brooklyn College in the Quarterfinal match-up on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hunter Sportsplex. However, before the postseason begins, the Hawks must first face Medgar Evers College on Tuesday, March 17 for a 7:00 p.m. match in Brooklyn, NY.
