New York, NY – Sophomore outside hitter
Wojciech Jakubiak (Poreba, Poland/Grover Cleveland) tied a match high of 11 kills, hitting .526 and adding 12 digs, six assists and three aces to his totals to help lead the Hawks to a 3-0 (30-13, 30-26, 30-21) win over Lehman College in the Quarterfinal Round of the CUNY Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament Tuesday night at the Sportsplex.
Freshman middle blocker
Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) also finished tonight with 11 kills and added four aces and two total blocks for the Hawks. Junior setter
Zacarias Ripoll (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) had double-double with 26 assists and ten kills, hitting a team high .615, while senior middle blocker
Shandu Foster (Long Island City, NY/Academy of American Studies) added with ten kills.
The Lightning, who conclude their 2009 season with a 9-17 overall record, got contributions from sophomore outside hitter Jonathan Cruz (Bronx, NY/JFK) and junior opposite RJ LeBlanc (South Rockwood, MI/Airport) who each had a team high eight kills in the match. Junior setter Nate Martin tallied 20 assists and senior outside hitter Joseph Bodden had a team high seven digs.
The Hawks now advance to Friday's Semifinals where they will face the fourth seeded New York City College of Technology at 6:00 p.m. at the ARC on the campus of Baruch College. The winner of that match will advance to the championship game to be played at 8:00 p.m. The first 75 Hawk fans in attendance will receive a free Hunter Athletics T-Shirt and we encourage all fans to show up in Purple to show your Hunter Pride!
