Hawks Knocked Out of NECVA By #3 Rivier

Cambridge, MA – Sophomore outside hitter Wojciech Jakubiak (Poreba, Poland/Grover Cleveland) hit a match high 13 kills, but his efforts wouldn't be enough to take down the #3 national ranked and top seeded Rivier Raiders who advance to the second round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association [NECVA] via a 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-28) Friday afternoon at the Rockwell Cage on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The victory improves Rivier to 33-1 on the season and they will now face the winner of the eighth-seeded Baruch College and ninth-seeded Medaille College on Saturday.

Freshman outside hitter Jerin Kallickal (Kerala, India/Sewanhaka) hit a team high .412 with ten kills and also had eight digs and two total blocks. Senior middle blocker Shandu Foster (Long Island City, NY/Academy of American Studies) also hit ten kills and two total blocks. Junior setter Zacarias Ripoll (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) tallied a match high 40 assists and also added four kills for the Hawks.

Raider middle hitter Matt Ferreira led the way with 13 kills, a .522 hitting performance, and five blocks. Senior middle hitter Scott Wright posted 12 kills, a .562 percentage, two aces, and two blocks. Junior setter Zach Hansen finished the day with 39 assists and three blocks.

The Hawks exit the tournament with a 23-16 record and will now look towards the possibility of defending their ECAC Championship at next Saturday's Tournament.
