New York, NY – After playing 62 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Hunter men's soccer team gave up a penalty kick attempt that would open up the door to an eventual 4-0 decision as the Hunter men's soccer team drops a tough game to its cross-town rival Baruch College Wednesday night on Randall's Island.
The penalty kick attempt was awarded to Baruch following a play in the box in which the Hunter keeper made contact with senior forward Freddy Carrasco. Carrasco then converted the penalty kick attempt to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead at 62:20.
The Bearcats then got an insurance goal seven minutes later when sophomore midfielder Boris Lipsman found sophomore midfielder Stefan Cocea who hit the bottom part of the crossbar before slipping into the net. The final two goals were scored following defensive mishaps by the Hawks that left sophomore forward Vincent Cruz all alone with the Hawk keeper to boot in the third and fourth goals.
Freshman keeper
Alexandre Ilic (Miami, FL/Miami Killian Senior High) got the start in net for the Hawks, playing a great first half, making three saves, but then as the defense broke down in the second, he would allow all four goals. Senior Nelson DiBastiano had three saves of his own while recording the shutout.
Baruch earns its first victory of the season to improve to 1-2-1 and goes 1-0 in the CUNYAC, while the Hawks drop to 0-4-1 and 0-1 in the conference. Hunter will return to the road on Saturday, traveling to Madison, NJ for a non-conference contest with FDU-Florham at 1:00 p.m.
