New York, NY – Junior opposite
Christopher Newcomb (Waimea, Kauai, HI/Waimea) led the Hawks offensive attack with nine kills, but in a battle of mascots, it would be the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz who earn a 3-0 (30-16, 30-25, 30-18) victory over the Hawks of Hunter College Thursday afternoon in a non-conference men's volleyball match held at the Hunter Sportsplex.
New Paltz senior opposite Jake Moore finished with a match high 11 kills, and also hit the Hawks up for six serving aces. New Paltz also dominated at the net, recording 17 total blocks as a team, led by five from senior Daniel Liberto.
For Hunter, sophomore
Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) finished with six kills and eight digs, while freshman middle hitter
Braien Otsla (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) added five kills and freshman
John Gemegah (Jackson Heights, NY/Aviation) had a team high three total blocks.
Hunter (1-2) will now prepare for the Stevens Invitational which kicks off on Saturday with a rematch against Newbury College, who the Hawks defeated on Sunday. The Hawks are also scheduled to face #4 Stevens on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and then #7 Nazareth College on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
