New York, NY - On Wednesday, November 16, the wrestling team hosted a tri-match featuring the Lions of The College of New Jersey and the Violets of New York University. After dropping the first match to TCNJ by way of a 36-14 defeat, the Hawks had their hands full with the NYU grapplers and fell in the second match, 24-13. With the loss, Hunter moves to 0-6.
The afternoon begun with the Hawks facing off aginst the Lions, with
Oliver Lopez defeating Dan Huges in the 125 weight class by a 3-0 decision. At the 141 weight class, junior
Sean Messina pinned Enrique Romero in 1:52 while
Eduardo Delgado (157) defeated Chris Lombardi by a technical fall for the Hawk's third and final win of the match. The effort was not enough as Hunter dropped 36-14.
In the final match of the day, Messina (141) notched the first win against Violet grappler, Clement Bommier by way of a 6-0 decision.
Matt Cartusciello (157) Delgado (165) and
Oliver Astone (285) also wrestled their way to wins via decision, as the Hawks came up short, 13-24 to conclude the day.
Hunter is back in action on Tuesday, November 23 when they host AIC at 6:00 pm.
