Hawks Edged Out By Camels

Box Score

New York, NY – Junior guard Maxwell Dubois (Hollywood, FL/Dillard) and freshman guard Eric Klingsberg (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) combined for 45 points off the bench, but after holding a 38-35 lead at the half, the Hawks would give up 48 points in the second to Connecticut College who earn an 83-79 victory in a non-conference men's basketball game Monday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

In a fast paced first half, the Hawks took an early lead before Connecticut guard Dean Lampe scored six unanswered points to put his team up 11-8 a little under four minutes into the game. Hunter then went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to claim a seven point, 18-11 lead. The Hawks would extend this lead to eight on two occasions, but Connecticut fought back each time cutting the game to one point with 3:50 left and then closed out the half on a 5-0 run to trail 38-35 at the intermission.

The second half was a back and forth game until Lampe erased a four point Hawk lead by hitting back-to-back three pointers, giving his team a 63-61 advantage with 7:32 to play. Lampe then drained another shot from downtown to give his team their largest lead of the night, 72-64 with a little over three and half minutes remaining. Dubois hit a three of his own with 34 seconds left to cut Hunter's deficit to just three points, but the Camels then iced the game from the line, hitting 5-of-6 free throws en route to their ninth win of the season.

The game's leading scorer was Connecticut forward Demetrius Porter who shot 12-of-17 from the field and went 9-of-11 from the free throw line for 33 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Lampe was the only other Camel to score in double digits, closing out the game with 27 points, shooting 5-of-6 from downtown and 10-of-13 from the field.

Dubois finished the game as the Hawks scoring leader with 22 points, shooting 5-of-7 from beyond arc. Klingsberg added 22 points and five assists, while junior guard Rocco Rubino (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 16 points and shot 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

Each team entered tonight's contest with an 8-12 record and they were evenly matched throughout. The Camels shot 51.7 percent (31-60) from the field, while the Hawks were 50 percent (31-62). From beyond the arc, the Camels finished 8-of-21 to Hunter's 7-of-12; and from the line Connecticut shot 13-of-16, while the Hawks were 10-of-14.
