New York, NY – Competing in a doubleheader against York College on Thursday night, junior outside hitter
Christopher Newcomb (Waimea, Kauai, HI/Waimea) hit .577 with 17 kills in a 3-0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-11) victory and then had a 14 kill performance in a 3-0 (30-11, 30-28, 30-15) win to sweep the Cardinals in men's volleyball action at the Hunter Sportsplex.
In the first match, junior opposite
Marcin Polak (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) hit .571 with ten kills, while freshman middle blocker
Braien Otsla (Brooklyn, NY, New Utrecht) added ten kills, two blocks and two aces. Sophomore
Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) also contributed to the victory with nine kills and five digs.
For the Cardinals, freshman opposite Arturo Cabrera Jr. finished with a team high eight kills, followed by sophomore Brian Franciso with six kills.
In the second match of the night,
Barty had 12 kills,
Otsla had seven kills, five aces and three blocks, and
Polak added a match high 18 digs along with seven kills and six total blocks.
York sophomore outside hitter Bryan Williams led his team with eight kills and two total blocks, while junior middle hitter Alex Niles added six kills.
Hunter (8-4, 6-0 CUNYAC) will be back in action on Saturday, when they head to Fairfield, Connecticut for a 7:30 p.m. match with Sacred Heart University.
