Dubois’ 23 Points Leads Hawks to Semifinals

New York, NY – Junior guard Maxwell Dubois (Hollywood, FL/Dillard) scored a game high 23 points along with 13 rebounds to lift the Hawks to a 93-81 victory over Medgar Evers College in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 CUNYAC / Con Edison Basketball Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Hunter Sportsplex.

In a fast paced, back and forth game that saw 14 ties and 17 lead changes, the final result would be decided at the free throw line. Trailing 72-71 with 4:36 left in the game, the Hawks used a 12-0 run to take a commanding nine point lead with 1:32 left and then closed things out from the free throw line, where they shot 10-for-10 in the final minute of play. For the game, Hunter shot 34-of-40 from the line, with Medgar Evers also shooting well, going 20-of-22.

Freshman guard Eric Klingsberg (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) was one of six Hawks to score in double figures, finishing with 16 points, shooting 12-of-14 from the line in 23 points off the bench. Junior guard Rocco Rubino (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and sophomore guard Mark Courtien (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) each scored 14 points, while freshman guard Izzy Hoffman (Woodside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 13 and first-year center Panagiotis Koutsoloukas (Marousi, Greece/Lycioum Paralimniou Cyprus) had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Cougars, senior guard Ronald Holloway scored a team high 17 points, followed by freshman guard Jovan Deare with 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting free the free throw line. Freshman forward Winston Douglas led the game in rebounding with 14 boards and also had 12 points.

Hunter (13-13) now advances to the semifinal round where they will face the top-seeded York Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of the City College of New York. In their only meeting of the season, York was able to edge out the Hawks 68-65.
