Hawks Fall in Five Sets to #4 Baruch

New York, NY – Sophomore middle blocker Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) led the Hawks with 20 kills, hitting .436 along with four assisted blocks, but his efforts couldn't the Hawks past the #4 Baruch College Bearcats who walked out of the Sportsplex on Saturday morning with a 3-2 (30-26, 27-30, 21-30, 30-19, 15-9) victory in the two team's first meeting of men's volleyball season.

After dropping the first set 30-26, the Hawks looked impressive by winning the next two sets, including a nine point win in the third set. However, following a personnel change, the Bearcats rallied back to win the fourth set 30-19 and then took the final set in convincing fashion 15-9.

Baruch sophomore outside hitter Sequiel Sanchez, recorded a match high 25 kills and had four total blocks, while junior opposite Santos Rivera added 22 kills, hitting .444. Junior outside hitter Pablo Oliveira contributed with 16 kills and senior setter Ivan Andujar tallied 63 assists.

Junior outside hitter Christopher Newcomb (Waimea, Kauai, HI/Waimea) helped the Hawks out with 13 kills and three assisted blocks, followed by freshman middle blocker Braien Otsla (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) with 12 kills and three assisted blocks. Senior setter Zacarias Ripoll-Cid (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) finished the match with 52 assists, seven digs and six kills.

The Hawks now fall to 9-7 on the year and are 7-1 in the conference, while the Bearcats improved to 17-2 overall, 7-0 in the CUNYAC.
