New York, NY – On a night when the Hawks celebrated the life of Arakdiy Levitin, on the mat they fought back from a 10-0 deficit to earn a 22-16 victory over Centenary College Wednesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The match started off with a close bout at 149 pounds where Craig Montgomery earned three team points for the Cyclones with a 5-4 riding time win over
Shabazz Bailey. Then after a major decision win at 157 pounds put Centenary up 7-0, Matt Reagan would give his team a commanding 10-0 lead with a 6-4 overtime win over
Eduardo Delgado at 165 pounds.
Hunter finally got on the board after
Emman Sarwari recorded a 14-7 decision over Mike Montgomery at 174 pounds. At 197 pounds, trailing 13-4 overall, sophomore
Anthony Daly got a 7-4 decision on Tim Tomaino. Following a loss at heavyweight, hunter caught a break as freshman
Ariel Guerrero and sophomore
Oliver Lopez each earned forfeit victories at 125 and 133 pounds to give the Hawks a 19-16 lead. Sophomore
Sean Messina then closed out the match with a 5-3 win at 141 pounds over Dave Alsieux.
Hunter (4-11) will face Yeshiva in the next match to finish up a full night of wrestling action at the Sportsplex.
