Newcomb’s Match High 11 Kills Leads Hawks Past Dolphins

New York, NY – Junior outside hitter Christopher Newcomb (Waimea, Kauai, HI/Waimea) hit a match high .556 with 11 kills and one error on 18 attempts to help lead the Hawks to a 3-0 (30-25, 30-15, 30-12) non-conference victory over the College of /Mount Saint Vincent in men's volleyball action Thursday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Freshman middle blocker John Gemegah (Jackson Heights, NY/Aviation) matched a season high of nine kills, hitting .412, and also had a match high of three assisted blocks. Junior Marcin Polak (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) collected 13 digs for the Hawks while playing libero, and senior setter Zacarias Ripoll-Cid (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) tallied 33 assists along with two kills, aces and assisted blocks.

For the Dolphins, senior middle blocker Rob Hockenjos finished with a team high nine kills, followed by sophomore opposite Matt Krauszer with six kills and junior setter Michael Quinn had 17 assists.

Hunter (17-8, 11-2 CUNYAC) now head to Stevenson, Maryland on Friday where they are scheduled to play Stevenson on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and then Medaille and Pfeiffer University on Saturday.
