BOX SCORE
BROOKLYN, NY – For the second consecutive match, the Hunter College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw, doing so against Brooklyn College in a mid-week CUNY Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening at Kingsborough Community College Field.
The draw moves Hunter's record to 3-6-3 overall on the year and 2-1-2 in conference action while the Bulldogs are now 1-7-2 on the season and 0-4-1 in the CUNYAC.
Brooklyn struck first as Miguel Veliz-Fitz utilized a cross from Paitim Gjonbalaj to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the 14th minute. The score would hold up for the lone tally of the half as the Hawks failed to find the net in the first 45 minutes, despite eight shot attempts.
Hunter wasted little time retaliating following the break as Michael Ziegler took advantage of the Brooklyn defense—which failed to clear the box, enabling the freshman to tally his first collegiate goal in the 52nd minute and even the score at 1-1.
Senior goalkeeper Zade Haobsh made seven saves and allowed the lone goal to keep the score even in the double overtime affair. Despite outshooting the Bulldogs 24-16, the Hawks couldn't convert another goal thanks in large part to Bulldogs' goalie Stamtis Boundouris who also made seven saves. Both keepers went the duration of the game, playing the full 110 minutes.
The Hawks held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-3 but committed fewer fouls (14) in an extremely physical match which saw the Bulldogs commit 21.
Hunter returns to the pitch and CUNYAC action this weekend as they play host to John Jay College at Randall's Island Field #10 this Saturday, October 8th at 5 pm.
