NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter College men's wrestling team picked up a pair of wins, defeating Yeshiva University, 38-10 before topping host New York University, 29-13 at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center on Tuesday evening.
Hunter (2-1) dominated against Yeshiva (0-3), recording three pins and four decisions in addition to a pair of forfeits. In the 125 round, Oliver Lopez pinned Gedalia Romanoff in 31 seconds for the victory. Yeshiva won the 133 division as Ryan Geronal fell, 6-2 however in 141, Sean Messina won via forfeit to keep the Hawks ahead. At 149, Brady Kwong made quick work of Samuel Lamm, pinning the Mac in 41 seconds to earn the victory. Yeshiva then earned victories in the 157, 165 and 174 divisions before Alan Djokic got the Hawks back on track at 184 with a 15-1 decision. Musa DeReese kept the Hawks rolling as he pinned Jacob Fiskus in 51 seconds at 197 before Leon Bodden earned a forfeit victory at 285 giving Hunter the 38-10 victory.
Against host NYU (2-3), the Hawks got off to a quicker start, winning the first three bouts. Kenneth Albert defeated Janik Santana-Quintana, 3-2 at 125 before Geronal downed Adlee Fayyaz, 10-2 at 133. Messina once again, picked up a forfeit victory at 144 before the Violets struck back with a 4-3 win at 149 as Matt DiGiovanni bested Gogatz. Matt Cartusciello pinned Sam Friedfeld in 6:02 at 157 for the Hawks' only pin of the match. NYU took the next three bouts as Jesse Capello-Colon fell 8-6 at 165 and Luke Pragdat dropped a 11-4 decision at 174. NYU's Pat Sheenan bested Djokic 9-3 at 184 before DeReese came up with the massive 12-3 victory at 184 to seal the victory for Hunter at 184.
The Hawks return to the mats on Wednesday, November 30 as they travel to Stevens Tech for a 7pm match.
