Hawks Put Away Yellow Jackets in Three

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY – On February 24, the men's volleyball team took on the New York City Tech Yellow Jackets in a conference match up. The Hawks made quick work of City Tech as they dispatched the Yellow Jackets in three straight sets 25-11, 25-8, 25-7. With the win the Hawks improve their record to 11-11, 7-2 CUNYAC while City Tech drops to 1-10, 1-8 CUNYAC.

City Tech got the game started on a kill by Fitzgerald Charles, but junior Ming Huang's kill quickly equaled the score. A Yellow Jacket error put the Hawks up 2-1, but this gain was once again negated by a Charles kill. The tie proved to be only temporary as the Hawks scored five straight points on their way to taking the first set 22-11.

The second set played out similarly to the first in the fact that they quickly jumped out to an early, insurmountable lead. A Huang kill, coupled with a City Tech error put the Hawks up 2-0. While an attack error by senior Marcin Polak brought the Yellow Jackets within one point of tying the game, this would be as close as City Tech would get in the second set. The Hawks never trailed from then on and took the second set 25-8.

Up two sets to none, the Hawks opened up the third, and final set with an impressive 18-3 run on the strength of nine points from combined efforts by Jonathan Park and Eric Lodde. The Hawks at one point led by 17 and finished out the sweep by taking the third set 25-7.

Polak led the Hawks with game high eight kills while Albert Chi added seven. Park had game high 27 assists. The Yellow Jackets were led by Moshood Jinad's five kills while Grzegorz Rozum had 13 assist.

The Hawks return to action on March 1 when they host the Bearcats of Baruch College in a conference matchup at The Sportsplex for Senior Night. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
