The Hunter College men's volleyball team was in action for the second consecutive night, falling in straight sets (25-27, 20-25, 25-16) to the New York University Violets on Wednesday, March 9 at the Coles Sports Center.
The Violets, who are currently ranked No. 5 in the AVCA Division III Top 15 Coaches Poll lived up to their billing in the match-up, sweeping straight sets behind their captain, Fran Hodgson, who posted a .471 hitting percentage along with 11 kills and three blocks. Nick Hodgson was almost equally as impressive for the Violets, adding 10 kills with a .500 percentage.
Meanwhile, despite the loss, Eric Barty had a strong performance for the Hawks, racking up 15 kills while posting a .542 hitting percentage. Stanley Martinez contributed a solid effort of his own, walking away with 26 assists and three blocks. As a team the Hawks recorded 32 kills with a .234 hitting percentage.
With the loss the Hawks dropped to 15-12 on the season, while the Violets improved to 11-6.
The Hawks will return to action when they travel to Stevenson, MD to take on Stevenson University on Friday, March 11.
