Men's Soccer Downed By Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, NJ - The Hunter College men's soccer team was defeated by host Rutgers University-Camden, 4-1 in the opening match of the 11th annual Cialella Soccer Classic.

The Scarlet Raptors jumped out to a quick lead, scoring their first goal less than seven minutes into the match. The Hawks answered back when Mario Rojas sent the Hunter's first corner kick into the box. Diego Mercado slipped a pass inside to Brayan Acevedo, who scored the first goal of his collegiate career from close range.

Less than four minutes later, Rutgers-Camden drew a penalty kick after they were taken down on a scoring opportunity inside the box. They converted it at 33:49 with a shot into the left side of the net past goalie Zade Haobsh to put the Scarlet Raptors in the lead for good. The Rutgers-Camden added two more goals in the second half for the final margin of victory.

For the match, the Scarlet Raptors outshot the Hawks 22-4, and 8-2 in corner kicks. advantage in shots and an 8-2 lead in corner kicks. Haobsh went the distance in goal for Hunter, making seven saves in the losing effort.

The Cialella Soccer Classic, named for former Rutgers-Camden athlete, coach, administrator and Athletic Director Dr. Edward Cialella, will conclude tomorrow. Hunter (0-2-1) faces William Paterson University at 2:00pm.
