NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter College men's basketball was plagued by turnovers as it suffered an 84-62 defeat against the New York University Violets at the Hunter Sportsplex this evening.
Hunter, which suffered 17 turnovers in tonight's loss, falls to 6-7 while NYU moves to 10-1 with the non-conference victory.
Seniors
Joel Cerda and
Panagiotis Koutsoloukas were the Hawks top performers this evening. Cerda finished with a team-high 15 points, adding three rebounds and two assists while Koutsoloukas tallied 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Violets took a 49-28 lead into the locker room. Despite trading baskets in the early goings of the first half, NYU's offense took control shortly thereafter. Koutsoloukas cut the Violets' lead to three points (16-13) with 12:06 left to go but from there NYU gained momentum and went on a 24-5 run across the next eight minutes to push ahead, 40-18 (4:29). Hunter played a much closer game in the second half as the Violets outscored Hunter by just one point (35-34) but the first half lead proved too great to overcome.
Hunter faired well from the field, shooting 43% and converted 11-22 (50%) free throws but ended the night just 3-14 (21%) from three-point range.
Hunter returns to action this Saturday, January 14 when they travel to face CUNYAC opponent Brooklyn College. Tip-off is set for 3:00pm.
