Hawks Drop 3-1 Decision against NYU

NEWARK, NJ –
The Hunter College men's volleyball team remains in search of its first victory of the season after dropping a 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-15) decision against New York University on Saturday, January 21 at the Rutgers-Newark Golden Dome Invitational.

The Hawks, now 0-3, opened the first set with a 25-22 victory and then led 24-23 in the second set before the Violets (1-1) rattled off three consecutive kills to earn a 26-24 victory.  

Hunter trailed throughout the third set, but fought back to within two (23-21) on a Violet service error but NYU closed the set with back to back kills to win 25-21.

In the fourth and final set, NYU opened on a 4-0 run and led throughout. Hunter cut the Violets' lead to four (14-10) on an Eric Barty kill but the Hawks would get no closer as NYU pushed ahead for the 25-15 win.

Chris Newcomb led the Hawks with 14 kills and John Gemeguh added 10. As a squad, Hunter finished with 44 kills on .198 attacking but was plagued by 19 attack errors and 11 service errors in the loss.

Hunter is back in action on Saturday when it competes against Baruch College in a non-conference match on Saturday, January 28th at 2pm before facing Medialle College at 4pm.
