GETTSYBURG, PA. – The Hunter College wrestling team went 3-0 at the Gettsburg Quad Meet on Saturday, earning key victories over Washington & Jefferson, Washington & Lee and finally the host team Gettysburg.
Ryan Gerondel and
Luke Pragdat each went 3-0 while Pragdat pinned a pair of opponents to help guide the Hawks to victory.
The Hawks (6-3) defeated Washington & Jefferson 37-12 to start the afternoon. Following a win by forfeit at 125, Gerondel earned his first victory on the day with an 11-3 major decision against Zach Cecchetti at 133. Brady Kwon pinned Roja Stephenson in an impressive 2:50 at 149 and
Matt Cartusciello followed in similar fashion, pinning Chris leva in 5:21 at 157. Two rounds later,
Luke Pragdat continued Hunter's winning ways, pinning Matt Barton in 2:09 at the 174 weight division. The 184 round featured
Alan Djokic earning the 4-2 decision against Eric Kohr before
Musa DeReese scored Hunter's fourth pin of the match at 197, taking down Cody Mitchell in 2:52.
Hunter dominated against Washington & Lee, outscoring the squad 47-3 as the Hawks won all but one match. Gerondel again started things for the Hawks earning a 10-0 major decision victory at 133 pounds before
Sean Messina pinned Conor Duffey in 2:08 at 141. At 149,
Chris Gogatz earned a 3-2 decision against H.T. Kotchinian while Cartusciello earned his second pin on the night, defeating Dan Igel in 4:24 at 157 pounds. Pragdat picked up a major decision victory at 174 pounds, defeating Marino Orlandi, 11-3.
Jordan Donahue registered a pin in his first match of the day, dropping Morgan Moskal in 3:40 at 184 pounds.
Finally, the Hawks routed Gettysburg 31-9 to wrap up the event. Gerondal earned his third victory, dropping Matt Spano, 10-4 to get the Hawks back on track following an early setback. Messina earned his second pin on the day, defeating Tony Stanell in 3:27 at 141 pounds. Gogatz' second win on the night came in the form of a 16-3 major decision victory over Pat Thomas at 149 pounds. At 184 pounds, Pragdat earned his second pin of the day, dropping Mike Sheehan in 3:44. DeReese claimed a 8-2 decision over Marshall Puls at 197 pounds before
Leon Bodden wrapped up with a 6-4 decision over Kevin Poplaski to close out the event.
The Hawks return to action this Wednesday, January 11 when they host Wilkes and Scranton in a tri-match. The event is slated to start at 3pm in the Hunter Sportsplex.
