The young Hawks were unable to get passed Manhattanville in season opener.

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY - On Thursday, November 15th, the men's basketball team opened up their 2012-2013 campaign when they played host to the Valiants of Manhattanville College.  The Hawks found themselves down early as they trailed 46-23 at half time,  and couldn't close the gap in the second ultimately dropping the game 67-89.  With the loss, the Hawks are 0-1, 0-0 CUNYAC while Manhattanville improves 1-0, 0-0 Freedom Conference.

The Hawks were led by forward sophomore Matthew Hunter, who netted 13 points and was 6 for 9 from the floor.  Teammates freshmen Taulant Ibraj and Lester Anim both chipped in with 12 points.

6-5 sophomore Eric Kippens led the Hawks in rebounding with 10, highlighted by 6 offensive rebounds.

Manhattanville was led by junior Colin Campbell, who had a game-high of 17 points on 7-11 shooting and led his team with four steals.  Five Valiants also reached double figures, and shot a blistering 57% on the floor en route to 89 points.

"We took it on the chin by a well-coached Manhattanville team that was more aggressive early. We have an inexperienced team, it will take time. Hunter basketball relies in trust, trusting each other, the offense, the defense, the system. The good news is that we play again tomorrow and Saturday where we will have the opportunity to grow as a team. I am encouraged that we shot 14-15 from the Throw line in the second half. 22 turnovers is too many, we need to improve in that area,” says head coach Shay Berry.

The Hawks are back in action when they travel to Poughkeepsie, NY when they compete in the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament on November 16th and 17th.  The Hawks will open up with Cazenovia University at 6pm on Friday.  They will play either Vassar or NYU-Poly Tech on Saturday at 2/4pm.
