Hawks Outlast Maccabees

Hunter scored 10 points in overtime to defeat Yeshiva.

Sophomore Daniel Sokolovsky had six assists in 12 minutes.

NEW YORK, NY – On Tuesday, November 20th the Hawks played host to the Maccabees of Yeshiva University in a non-conference match up.  Knotted at 64-64 at the end of regulation, Hunter went into their first overtime of the season, coming out victorious with a 74-66 win.  The Hawks now move to 2-2, 0-0 CUNYAC while the Maccabees drop to 0-2, 0-0 Skyline Conference.

The first half teetered back and forth until freshman Brian Kruger hit a three-pointer for the Hawks with nine minutes left, giving his team their biggest lead thus far.  Alone in the first half the Hawks shot 47% from the floor and 81% from the free throw line.

Hunter broke away with 12 minutes left in the second half with a nine point lead.  But the Maccabees fought back and were able to tie it up 64-64 forcing the game into overtime.

The Hawks deemed too strong for Yeshiva in extended play as sophomore Matthew Hunter scored four out of his eight points to give the Hawks a 74-66 victory.

“I have a lot of respect for Yeshiva's coach John Halpern and their players.  We executed in overtime that allowed us to get the win and move to .500.  I was pleased with our team's carry-over from practice to the game-we are improving.  Ben Mayell and Eric Kippins did a great job leading us tonight,” says head coach Shay Berry.

Sophomore guard Eric Kippins led the Hawks with 16 points and when 5-7 on the floor.  Teammate Brian Kruger had 14 points for the Hawks with two defensive rebounds and went 4-6 on the floor, while Mayell chipped in with 13 points. 
The Hawks are back in action when they travel to Madison, NJ to compete against Drew University on Sunday, November 24th
